Erna Heymans from EE Labels delivered a guest lecture at Hogent. EE Labels, a family business active since 1900, produces labels, hangtags, and packaging for fashion brands, with a strong focus on sustainability. They incorporate recycled polyester and organic cotton in their production and are committed to promoting a circular economy.

The most intriguing part of the presentation was their work on smart labels. This innovation supports traceability and prolongs product life, contributing to sustainable business models. While the presentation itself didn’t fully capture my interest, the technology behind these labels aligned with my curiosity for sustainability, particularly in fashion where I see potential in using digital innovations like 3D design to reduce waste. EE Labels is ahead of the curve, already working on solutions that could become vital once EU legislation supports these technologies.
