The presentation on hemp for textiles, hosted by the University of Ghent, focused on the advantages of hemp fibers in the textile industry. Hemp is a sustainable alternative to materials like cotton, and the lecture covered the process of growing and processing hemp into fibers suitable for textiles. I found it interesting that hemp fibers can be spun into high-quality yarns, offering versatility in texture and strength.
The potential of hemp to be integrated into complex patterns and designs is exciting for those working in fashion design and pattern making.
The presentation also highlighted efforts to scale up production, which could provide designers with more eco-friendly options. Hemp is not only sustainable but offers a durable fiber that holds up well in long-term use, aligning with my passion for creating designs that are both functional and environmentally responsible.
